Last week, I got up in the morning, got ready for the day, and went out to check into the places I’ve applied to for jobs. As I was driving, I passed a church sign that read, “Exercise Daily. Walk with Jesus.” At first I laughed and I was going to post a funny, but as the hours went on I realized something – walking with Jesus isn’t just a simple gym workout. It’s so much more.
We go to the gym to lose fat, to gain muscle, to tone muscle, etc. Our goal is to be healthier. When you first begin, it is SO HARD. You know, the staying motivated part? The making sacrifices part? (*sigh* Good-bye oreos…) The entire process really requires you to change your ENTIRE mindset!
But you stick to it. You have too – those results though!
When you go to the gym, you have to seriously motivate yourself to KEEP GOING no matter how hard it is. You make that choice. You make the choice to wake up early or to go after an exhausting day of work. You make the choice to go when you’ve had a bad day and it’s your “release” to feel better.
But we sometimes compare ourselves. We want the finish instead of the process. We want the results. So we keep changing our diets. We change our routines. We change the weights. We change the repetitions. Then slowly over time we begin to see results. Remember that feeling? The joy in losing weight. The joy when you were FINALLY gaining muscle or toning your muscle?
Now imagine you had life change and joy all the time.
When you walk with Jesus, that’s what happens.
You lose selfishness.
You lose anger.
You lose bitterness.
You lose hatred.
You lose bad influences.
And you gain peace.
You gain joy.
You gain happiness.
You gain freedom.
You gain love.
You gain a loving Father.
You gain comfort.
I know you are probably thinking, “a gym workout is not simple by any means”. Trust me, I know. But I do not say “simple” making it lesser than. I mean it is more simple, because at the gym you don’t die to pride. The gym can’t take away your pain. The gym can’t heal you. The gym cannot give you full on 100% joy, happiness, or peace. And the gym most certainly cannot give you eternal life.
“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” -Matthew 16:25 (NKJV)
When we resist against ourselves and choose HIM, we experience true love and freedom. Our voids can be replaced with the One and only Jesus Himself. The One who suffered for our sake, because He loves us so much. Jesus wants us to talk to and with Him. Let Him carry your burdens and give you peace. Let Him be your release. Jesus wants to love each and every one of us right we are at and bring us through the process. The gym might make you physically strong, but it won’t make you spiritually stronger – on Jesus can do that.
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient fo ryou, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
